I D E A O F H O M E HOVER MOUSE OVER ARTWORK TAB TO SEE MORE WORK
This body of work started in 2008. It was spawned by a moving across the country to California...to the most conservative part of the state, and then returning to the South one year later. This work is based on social and cultural expectations of womanhood and domestic roles, both actualities and stereotypes. All of the pieces are rooted in personal experience. Most consist of printmaking methods, such as lithography, silkscreen, and intaglio, but many of them have a lot of hand cutting, gluing, and graphite drawing: artistic labor to hearken to domestic labor. In this body of work, the dirty dishes, appliances, and furniture take on a very antagonistic role, a rebellion against society's domestic expectations.
I hate being expected to do the dishes, but I actually enjoy washing them.
